Company History & Ownership

Federal Recycling was founded in 1914 as Federal Paper Stock Company, a paper and textile recycler started by two families. The company operated and grew through the post-WWI, Great Depression, and WWII eras, expanded into commodity trading, and acquired recycling plants across Missouri, Texas, Colorado, Georgia, and Pennsylvania over the following century. In 2021 the recycling business rebranded as Federal Recycling & Waste Solutions to distinguish it from its parent company.

The company is owned by parent company Federal International, Inc. and is part of the Federal International group, which also includes sister companies Federal Foam Technologies and Federal Eco Foam. It remains a family-owned business operating under a shared “One Federal Vision.”

Certifications & Recognition

Federal Recycling is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and its certifying partner, the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) Midwest. WBENC is the nation’s largest third-party certifier of women-owned and women-operated businesses in the U.S. The company is also globally certified through WBENC’s partner, WEConnect International, supporting corporations and government agencies that value supplier diversity.

Yes. Federal Recycling is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and its certifying partner, the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) Midwest. Federal Recycling recycles paper, cardboard (OCC), plastics, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood pallets, foam, glass, and food waste, along with select hard-to-recycle specialty materials. Accepted materials can vary by location and processing capability, and some may require preparation or separation before pickup.
Federal Recycling offers waste hauling and consulting, recycled-commodity sales and trading, pallet reclamation and sales, confidential destruction and disposal, commercial recycling equipment (balers, compactors, shredders, bins, and containers), and sustainability consulting. Programs are customized to each facility’s material types, volumes, and operational needs, for single sites or multi-location national operations.
Federal Recycling works with manufacturers, distribution centers, warehouses, grocery and food service operations, printing and publication companies, retail chains, corporate offices, schools, and government organizations. Clients range from local businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Any commercial or industrial operation generating consistent recyclable materials or waste streams is a strong fit.
Federal Recycling serves both moderate and high-volume generators. As a general guideline, the company looks for roughly 5 tons or 10,000 pounds of byproduct per month, though it can accommodate less in specific circumstances. Contact the nearest location to discuss your material mix and volume.
Federal Recycling tracks performance using material weights, diversion rates, and landfill-reduction metrics. Clients access reporting through an online portal for real-time sustainability data, and reports can be customized to support ESG, corporate sustainability, and regulatory disclosures. The company also provides certificates of destruction and diversion reports.
Recycling is Federal Recycling’s sole business rather than an add-on to disposal, and it processes materials through its own owned plant assets rather than operating purely as a broker. That ownership position lets the company offer competitive material pricing and prioritize maximizing the value of a client’s byproducts. With over 110 years in the industry, eight nationwide plants, and WBE certification, it pairs financial strength with supplier-diversity value.
