At Federal Recycling & Waste Solutions, we’re proud to recognize the women who elevate our industry through collaboration and shared success. In the spirit of International Women’s Day 2026 and its “Give to Gain” theme, we’re spotlighting Kendra Kemp, VP of Operations — a leader whose three-decade career shows how investing in others and driving collective progress has guided Federal through major growth, change, and industry evolution.
Building a Career in Recycling & Operations Leadership
Kendra began her career in 1994 at a paper mill in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, building deep technical knowledge that would serve as the foundation for her leadership. After gaining experience at mills across the country, she joined Federal Recycling 22 years ago, when the company operated just a single plant.
Today, Kendra oversees all eight recycling plants, guiding teams on plant performance, efficiency, new business development, and continuous improvement. She also manages the company’s key relationships with larger manufacturers and mills.
Driving Innovation in Recycling & Sustainability
During her time with Federal Recycling, Kendra has witnessed significant shifts in recycling — from increased focus on decarbonization to the volatility of commodity markets. She approaches these challenges with clarity and pragmatism:
- Helping manufacturers reduce their carbon footprint by understanding their end goals
- Navigating suppressed markets and exploring alternative outlets
- Supporting opportunities like waste‑to‑energy partnerships and other new capabilities for the company
Her leadership ensures Federal remains responsive, innovative, and aligned with the sustainability goals of our partners.
Give to Gain in Action
As the sole woman on the executive team, Kendra exemplifies the “Give to Gain” philosophy through her mentorship and support of other women across the organization. Her visibility in a senior leadership role shows what’s possible, while her willingness to share her experience, guidance, and perspective gives emerging leaders the confidence to pursue advancement.
“Within our organization, I lead by example and show women there are opportunities for them to grow and be promoted into higher management roles,” Kendra says.
Advancing Women in Recycling & Waste Solutions
Kendra’s story reflects the spirit of International Women’s Day: women leading with expertise, curiosity, and commitment to progress. Her impact is felt across every facility she supports and across the entire organization.
Today, we celebrate Kendra and all the women at Federal Recycling & Waste Solutions whose leadership strengthens our future.
